What Matters At the End of the Level

Good day to you all, my fellow nerds!

I hope everybody had a terrific Labor Day weekend! Moreso, I hope that weekend involved a lot of food, friends/family, gaming & game development!

Because, let’s be honest, that’s what matters at the end of the level…I mean day.

We achieved an interesting milestone this past weekend: 1000 members

Numerically speaking, that’s awesome!

Needless to say, that does not always translate into actual attendance at any of our super fun Meetup gatherings. But, that’s ok! We’ve had a wonderful amount of new faces beginning to frequent our Meetups alongside the veteran attendees. And, to this day, we are making a bigger difference than ever before within our respective projects, networking & educational opportunities…ultimately leading to our next Sacramento Indie Arcade for 2017 and beyond!

This is what matters. This is what will always matter.

Not the numbers, but the moments. The memories…the achievements…

We may not yet be where we want to be. But, I’m elated that we are where we currently are!

Let us continue creating these moments, within our vibrant nerd community, with these upcoming events for September 2016:

WOULD YOU LIKE TO TAKE A SURVEY?
I know, “EW, SURVEYS, GO AWAY NERD”. But, this is an important one as responding to this will continue to define & improve the future of our Chapter! We want to make sure future educational sessions meet all levels of quality learning and are accommodating to everyone’s schedules regardless of location! So, HELP ME, HELP YOU by taking this survey!

CONTEST BY NINJA PANDAS: LEVEL DESIGN
Ninja Pandas, an Ed Tech video game company, is geared towards teaching others how they make a variety of games. They are hosting a contest to find new artists to work with in the Sacramento/Stockton region.

Here are the rules: Make an 8-bit level design inspired by the City of Sacramento/Stockton and its surrounding areas.

How this will be judged: The Ninja Pandas team will be looking at overall design and how it reflects the City of Sacramento or the surrounding areas. Additionally, each submission will also be judged on the design layout in your raw files. Organization and cleanliness of your assets is very important!

Before submitting, please send a zip file with the following:
• Word/Text Doc with your name & email
• Description of what you submitted
• How it inspired you!
• An exported out design in PNG format.
• Your Illustrator file
• Links to other artwork or designs you have created. (Optional)

If you have that all in order, please submit your Zip File to: Jtbhakta@ninjapandas.com

Winners:
• 1st place: $150 prize
• 2nd place: $100 prize
• 3rd place: $50 prize

Finally, each winner will also have the opportunity to work on the next Ninja Pandas project!

GET A (EXTRA) LIFE!
Do you play games? Do you want to help kids at the UC Davis Children's Hospital by simply playing games? Awesome!

Consider joining our Extra Life team! http://www.extra-life.org/team/SacIndieArcade

Our very own Founder & Chair, Gabriel Gutierrez, will be running an Extra Life live-stream of the upcoming Bioshock HD Collection (playing Bioshock 1 on Xbox One) on Tuesday evening, September 13th @ 6pm, from his Nascent Games Twitch channel: http://twitch.com/nascentgames

Our goal is to provide quality events that will help each of you thrive in your personal & professional development.

Although there is no cost to be a part of our Meetup group (EVER!), there are benefits for professionals and students to become members of IGDA. Read more here: https://www.igda.org/?page=benefits.

Did you know a portion of member dues are invested back to local chapters? Should you choose to become an official IGDA member, this will help us continue to host quality and diverse game development events.

As always, we want to know what YOU want to see in an upcoming IGDA Sacramento event! Let us know which past sessions you've liked, what you didn’t, what you want to learn and what events you’d like to see happen!

GAME ON, SACRAMENTO!

Cheers,

Gabriel - Founder & Chair
