Broadway Sacramento

Broadway Sacramento

Attending a live musical theatre performance can move the heart and mind in a way that no movie can touch. The best place to fill your senses is by attending a show at Broadway Sacramento which includes Broadway in the Round at Music Circus and Broadway on Tour. A night at Broadway Sacramento is perfect for going with friends or a date. Whether it’s a casual affair or a big to-do, the arts are notorious for bringing together people from different walks of life. Over the last 8 years, I’ve made it a point to catch at least one show each season.  At Broadway on Tour I’ve seen Pippin’, Rock of Ages, Beauty and the Beast, and my favorite The Phantom of the Opera. In 2017 at the Music Circus, I saw On the Town, 9 to 5, Sister Act and Mamma Mia. Just last week I’ve had the honor of attending opening night for Waitress the Musical as part of the Broadway Sacramento Ambassador program.

I consider myself to be a fan of traditional musicals like Phantom of the Opera, Cats and most other Andrew Lloyd Weber productions. I didn’t do any research prior to this show but I knew I loved the music of Sara Bareilles so it seemed like a no brainer. By the end of the first act I was intrigued. The last 35 minutes of act two had me quietly ugly crying in my seat. Take a moment and listen to these two songs from the show; “She Used to Be Mine” and “Everything Changes”. I related to Waitress the Musical in an unexpected way. This was truly a musical pertinent to my generation. These are prime examples of the quality performances that come to Broadway Sacramento and I was reminded all over again why I love the theatre!

Are you a first-time patron? Here are a few things to know:

Parking

One of the many things I love about living in Sacramento is the ability to go straight from work to a show. Ride-sharing options like Lyft and Uber make it easy to get to the venues without having to find parking. However if you prefer to drive your own car, the city of Sacramento’s Sac Parks program and ParkMobile app can make your life easier.

Food and Drink

Broadway at Music Circus and Broadway on Tour are both located in Downtown Sacramento. If you’re a foodie like me, you’ll find a diverse range of restaurants and bars to choose from prior to the start of your show. Bring your show ticket and you’ll receive a discount at participating restaurants before and after the show. Most establishments are within walking distance of the theatres too!

What to Wear

Attending a musical theatre performance doesn’t have to be stuffy. In other words, if you want to wear jeans, wear jeans! Do you prefer to wear a dress or a collared shirt and tie?  That’s cool too. A matinee show tends to be a more casual affair as opposed to an evening show. But as long as you’re comfortable and clean, then you’ll be good to go ;)
